Baptism

Water Baptism is a very important step in becoming established in the principles of a new life in Christ (Hebrews 6:1-2). Water Baptism is not simply a form of meaningless ceremony, but a definite and supernatural experience in the life of any New Testament Believer, as recorded for us in the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Epistles.

What Is The Meaning Of Baptism?

Being baptized is an outward act of obedience by which the believer fulfills or completes the inward righteousness received through faith in the death and resurrection of Christ.  It is symbolic yet a real spiritual experience. It is baptism into the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. By baptism in His death, we are “cut off” from the former life. By immersion into the water we bury the “old man” or the “old life” and by rising up out of the water we experience resurrection to walk in newness of life.

So baptism is into His:

a.   Death (Romans 6:3,4,5,11)

b.   Burial (Colossians 2:12)

c.   Resurrection (Colossians 3:1; Romans 6:4,5)

Baptism is identification with Christ. In believing in Christ we accept His death, burial and resurrection. In water baptism we are identified with this act.

1)   By baptism we stand as “dead” to the old life and world.

2)   By immersion we bury the “dead”.

3)   By raising up out of the water, we rise to walk in newness of life.
